It is not uncommon for people to not recognize their gifts. Sometimes talents, skills and abilities are so elusive that we question if God remembered to give them to us at all. Not so with Gia Wyre. When you have a voice like Gia’s you KNOW that God has touched your life and that you were born to sing. In fact to have her voice and not sing would be an insult to God for the wonderful work He has done!
With her powerful June 25th Restored and Renewed concert, which will be hosted by gospel artist Kim Burrell, Gia is determined to touch the hearts and spirits of her audience. Her life and her music are her testimony, to let women and single mothers know that she has been where they are: Public assistance, abusive marriage, lack of confidence, all of it. She has had doors closed and parts given to skinny girls with light skin and far less talent. The devil has tried every trick in his book to bring her down. Every step of the way God has picked her up, elevated her and brought to where she is now. Raising four boys alone has not been easy but God has been the constant force guiding and directing her path away from hurt and pain. She knows that she has been damaged by the turmoil in her life but Gia understands that you can be affected and still be effective. She wants to give others hope and encouragement to trust in God. Her gift is so strong it cannot be denied. Her voice is her ministry. Her powerful anointing is bound to be a blessing to all.
Gia Wyre grew up with music all around her. She has an enormously talented family. We have heard of families forming singing groups as a way of showcasing their talent. Gia’s family, however, formed a fifty member choir performing as The Family of Joy. During her childhood they provided joy and entertainment to all who were fortunate enough to hear them sing. At barely five years old Gia’s talent was recognized and thus began her career. She was a member of the Miami Girls’ Choir of the University of Miami from the ages 9 to 15. She then began singing all over the nation and became known to the world as the “Songbird.” At the age of 10, she sang at Carnegie Hall in New York. In 1995, Gia also sang for former President Bill Clinton at the Summit of the Americas held in Miami, Fl. Gia shared the stage withBillie D. Williams and Tichina Arnoldin the stage play “If These Hips CouldTalk” (2000-2003). She then workedalongside Kim Fields and Aaron Hallin an annual stage play entitled “I’llAlways Love My Momma.” Gia costarredwith Clifton Powell, DemetriaMcKinney, Robin Givens, and AngelaWinbush in “Church Girl” in 2010. In2012, Gia then co-starred with TerrellCarter in the gospel stage play entitled“Psychward” in Miami, FL.
Gia Wyre has shared the stage with many gospel greats including Karen- Clarke Sheard, BeBe & CeCe Winans, the late Ron Winans, Shirley Murdock, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Kim Burrell, Dorothy Norwood and many more. Her stage performances are known to be captivating and soul reaching. She has been featured in “Sister Sister” Magazine and many more. Described as uplifting, funny, soul-stirring, and anointed, Gia’s sultry style of singing has touched hearts around the country. She is most famously known to many in the community as the “singer with the beautiful spirit and voice.” In December 2015, Gia Wyre premiered her first Gospel Stage Play entitled “Home For The Holidays,” which she wrote and directed.
Church has always been important to Gia and she has been actively involved in church since she was a little girl. She currently serves as Minister of Music at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Theo Johnson. She also acknowledges first lady, Alicia Johnson. She serves as the Music / Drama Instructor at Juanita G. Hawkins Academy. One of her greatest blessings has been the love and support of her family.
She fondly recalls her grandmother, Margaret Montgomery, taking her to churches, programs, special events and as many singing opportunities as she possibly could. She was so proud of her granddaughter and wanted the world to hear her sing. Gia Wyre’s parents, Alphonso and Janice Wyre are equally committed to supporting her special gift. She says that her parents have provided her with the best support system in the entire world. They have traveled on the road with her and served as caretakers for her four sons, Devontae T. P. Miller, Roshad Montgomery, Javon Wyre and Jeffrey Miller. Her sons appreciate and support her work. In fact Devontae “T. P.” Miller, her eldest son, has made a name for himself in entertainment as an actor and singer. Roshad raps but prefers to work behind the scenes and Javon helps with social media. Her youngest son, Jeffrey, is very supportive as he is learning the value of working together as a family unit. Gia’s newest inspiration is her grandson, Devontae, Jr.
Gia Wyre is thankful for her team which includes her singers, Nikki Thomas, Dwayne Charlton, Victoria Coats, Sharion Davis, Michael Murray, Michelle Gordon and her sister, Connie Wyre. They are all amazing talents and give her strength and unwavering support. She is thankful and appreciative of both of her assistants, Alonzo Hudson and Andrea Jordan, as well as Kortney Haigler, her manager at GLWyre Entertainment. Teamwork makes the dream work and Gia Wyre says one of her greatest blessings is her awesome and committed team.
In addition to the dynamic Pastor Kim Burrell, others on the show for the June 25th concert include Professor Stephen English, Lady Christina Robinson, Dedications Dance Academy ministry under the direction of Raymond Young, and comedian Lina Davis.
When not working with her music, Gia helps with her family’s business, CJW Travel.
